Janellas Stress Belly Week: Resistant Starch (RS).

Gut bacteria may make chemicals that have been linked to reduced anxiety and depression, autoimmune issues and helping to maintain optimal weight – including one called butyrate.

Gut bugs make #BUTYRATE by fermenting certain types of fibre.

So, eat the fiber that butyrate love. Particularly powerful is resistant starch (RS) found in seeds, legumes, whole grains, cold potatoes and rice, artichokes, unripe bananas, asparagus, and just about any vegetable.

Yes cold potatoes and rice!

Not all forms of RS will be OK for everyone. We still need to consider glycemic index as in #diabetes and #PCOS, and the presence of bacteria in small intestine (#SIBO), and food sensitivities.

So no more guilt about eating tatties – not if they’ve been cooked, then cooled that is.
